SURF SPOTS

🌊 Atlantic Surf Spots

From Essaouira to Tan-Tan, the Moroccan Atlantic coast is one of the richest surf destinations in the world. Here are the main spots within reach of Tamraght.

Map of Atlantic surf spots from Safi to Tan Tan
Surf Guide

Spot Guide — Atlantic Coast

Peak season runs October–March, when NW Atlantic swells light up the coast and east offshore winds groom the point breaks. November–January is the most consistent window. Check live forecasts before paddling out — see the daily forecast above.

Anchor Point

Intermediate–Advanced

Type: Right-hand point break · Best swell: NW 3–8 ft · Wind: E offshore

Morocco's benchmark wave — a fast, powerful right-hander with rides of 150–300 m when the swell lines up. Rocky reef with real consequences; best from 3–6 ft for confident intermediates.

Killer Point

Intermediate–Advanced

Type: Right-hand reef · Best swell: NW 3–6 ft · Wind: E offshore

Fast, hollow sections between Hash Point and Anchor Point. Shorter than Anchor but punchier — demands quick drops and reef confidence. Usually less crowded than Hash on good days.

Hash Point

Beginner–Intermediate

Type: Right-hand point · Best swell: NW 2–5 ft · Wind: E/NE offshore

The most accessible break in the area — playful, mostly right-hand walls. The practical daily choice for visiting surfers, though the lineup gets busy when it's firing.

Panoramas

Beginner–Longboard

Type: Right-hand point · Best swell: W–NW 1–4 ft · Wind: NE offshore

Mellow, long rides with a relaxed vibe — ideal when Hash is too crowded or too big. Great for longboarding, first point-break sessions, or a low-intensity morning surf.

Boilers

Advanced

Type: Reef break · Best swell: W–NW 2–5 ft · Wind: E offshore (wind-sheltered)

Named after rusty ship boilers on the rocks — a vertical, punchy right near Cape Ghir. Natural wind channel keeps it clean when other spots go onshore. Sharp reef, urchins, and a sketchy entry: experts only.

Devil's Rock

Beginner–Intermediate

Type: Beach break · Best swell: W–NW 1–4 ft · Wind: E/NE offshore

A friendly sand-bottom peak with left and right options. One of the best learn-to-surf spots in the area when the points are too heavy or crowded.

Banana Point

Beginner

Type: Beach break · Best swell: Small NW · Wind: NE offshore

Soft, sandy waves — perfect for first sessions, surf schools, and small-day fun. Low crowd factor compared to the main points.

Imsouane

Beginner–Intermediate

Type: Long right-hand point · Best swell: NW 2–6 ft · Wind: E/NE offshore

~1 hour north — home to one of Morocco's longest right-handers. A classic day-trip when the coast is flat or you want mellower, kilometre-long rides on the right swell angle.

Conditions change daily — swell direction, tide, and wind make or break every spot. This guide is for orientation only; always assess the lineup locally and respect reef hazards. See the daily forecast above for live links.

Useful Tips
PRACTICAL INFO

Prayer Days & Islamic Holidays

Plan your stay with the Islamic calendar in mind. Some activities, shops, and services may have reduced hours or temporary closures.

🕌 Friday — Prayer Day

Friday is the holy day of the week. Jumu'ah prayer takes place at noon, and many activities, shops, and souks may close or reduce hours from approximately 11:30am to 2:00pm.

🌙 Eid al-Fitr

End of Ramadan — 3 days of national holiday. Almost everything closed. Variable date (lunar calendar): approximately late March/early April.

🐑 Eid al-Adha

The Feast of Sacrifice — 3–4 days of total closure. One of the most important celebrations of the year. Approximately June/July (varies each year).

📅 Ramadan

The holy month of fasting: reduced hours, some activities close during the day and reopen in the evening. The atmosphere is unique, but local traditions must be respected.

🍽️ Couscous — Fridays Only

By tradition, couscous is eaten on Fridays in Moroccan restaurants and homes. It is the dish of the week par excellence: if you're there on a Friday, don't miss this authentic experience!

⚠️ Important: Islamic holiday dates change every year based on the lunar calendar. We recommend checking exact dates before your departure.

PRACTICAL INFO

Ramadan: Not a Limit, but an Opportunity

Travelling during Ramadan is an experience few people forget. It's not an obstacle — it's an open window onto one of the deepest and most beautiful traditions in Islam. In Tamraght and the surrounding area, life flows almost normally: activities are open, restaurants are running, surf lessons take place as usual. You can eat or drink in public without drawing disapproving looks.

🌙 The Magic of Sunset

Iftar, the meal that breaks the fast at sunset, is a moment of collective joy. If you're invited to share it with a local family, say yes without hesitation: it's one of the most authentic gifts Morocco can offer you.

🤝 Mutual Respect

You don't need to fast, but a small gesture makes all the difference. Avoid smoking and keep eating or drinking to bars and restaurants, out of respect for those making an enormous spiritual sacrifice — like not drinking even a glass of water from dawn to sunset. It's simple common sense, not a sacrifice.

✨ A Unique Atmosphere

Evenings during Ramadan have a special energy: the souks come alive after sunset, music fills the air, families come out. You discover a different Morocco — more intimate and authentic — that few tourists are lucky enough to experience.

⚠️ Note: Ramadan dates change every year based on the lunar calendar. Check the exact dates before your departure to be well prepared.

PRACTICAL INFO

Time in Morocco: Watch Out for Time Zone Changes

Morocco keeps time in its own way. The official time zone is UTC+1, but it shifts several times throughout the year — and not always in sync with Europe.

🕒 Official Time Zone

Morocco is normally at UTC+1 (same as Italy in winter, one hour behind in summer).

☀️ Moroccan Daylight Saving Time

Morocco applies its own daylight saving time (UTC+1 → UTC+2) in periods that don't always align with European clocks — always check before travelling.

🌙 Ramadan: Time Suspended

During Ramadan, Morocco temporarily reverts to UTC+1 even if it was on summer time. This creates a sudden one-hour difference with Europe.

📱 Practical Tip

Set your phone to “automatic time” and always check the local time before scheduling appointments or booking transport.

⚠️ Important: Moroccan time changes can catch you off guard: an unexpected one-hour difference can mean missing flights, buses or appointments. Always double-check!

About Us

Hi, I'm Ilaria

I'm Ilaria, and Morocco has been my home for several years — a place where my life, my work, and my heart have slowly intertwined. Through the tourism world, I've had the gift of meeting wonderful people, sharing meaningful moments, and building lasting connections with the local community.

After years of organizing trips and working quietly behind the scenes, I felt called to create something more personal: a platform where you can discover not just activities, but experiences that feel true, thoughtful, and full of soul. Every journey here is chosen with care, trust, and the kind of local knowledge that comes from living it, loving it, and belonging to it.

For you, this is more than travel. It's an invitation to explore Morocco through a warmer, more authentic lens — and to feel a little more at home in the adventure.

I speak Italian, English, Spanish and French — so don't hesitate to reach out in your language.

“Some of the most beautiful journeys begin the moment you trust your heart — and let Morocco show you the path.”

One community. One territory. One unforgettable experience.

We chose Morocco — not for a season, but for life. You'll explore a land we know deeply and love fully, from every wave and alleyway to every sunset.

🌊 The Sea

Surf, ocean, freedom. We know it like the back of our hand.

🏔️ The Land

Mountains, deserts, oases. We take you where tourists don't go.

🤝 The People

Authentic connections with local communities. We're not guides — we're at home here.

🎨 The Colours

Pastel, vibrant, authentic. Morocco seen through eyes that truly love it.

Animal Protection — The Beldis · Street Dogs · How to Help
      🐾 HELP THE BELDIS

      Found an Animal in Need?

Morocco is home to around 3 million stray dogs — the Beldis, native dogs with a gentle and resilient spirit. Shelters are often overwhelmed, so if you find an injured or struggling animal, act quickly and contact those working directly on the ground.

      🐾 What to do immediately

Shelters are full: the real difference is made by acting immediately and directly.

If you find an animal in need and need support with vet costs, contact local organisations first to arrange help in advance and confirm that funds are available — with countless daily emergencies, this cannot always be guaranteed. Only then take the animal to the vet.

If you can cover the costs yourself, go directly to the vet: it will be a great act of love. 🧡

If you don't have transport, you can arrange a ride using the contacts alongside.

      🐾 Bitten?

Bitten by a Dog or Cat? Act Immediately

Rabies is fatal once declared — but 100% preventable with post-exposure vaccination. Don't wait.

      🧼 Wash the Wound Immediately

Wash the wound thoroughly with soap and water for at least 15 minutes. Disinfect with alcohol or iodine if available.

🏥 Go to the Vaccination Centre

Go straight to the nearest anti-rabies centre. The vaccine is free in Morocco and should be started within 24 hours of the bite.

⚠️ Important: Even if the bite seems minor or the animal looks healthy, go anyway. Rabies shows no visible symptoms in animals during the early stages.

      🐾 HELP THE BELDIS

      ⚠️ IMPORTANT — PLEASE READ

Morocco is home to around 3 million stray dogs — the Beldis, native dogs with a gentle and resilient spirit. Shelters are often overwhelmed. If you find an injured or struggling animal, act quickly: contact those working directly on the ground.

      ☠️ Suspicion of Poisoning

When you find a dead dog, please follow these steps:

      • Take photos/video
      • Note injuries/symptoms
      • Look for any suspicious items in the area (DO NOT TOUCH WITH BARE HANDS OR SMELL — poison can be absorbed through skin and inhaled)
      • Note exact location and time
      • Check if any other dogs in the area are affected or missing
      • Talk to local residents and shopkeepers
      • Ask to view CCTV footage

If the animal is alive and suspected of being poisoned, seek veterinary help as soon as possible.

🐣 Young Kittens or Puppies Alone

Mothers can often be away from their young for some time, looking for food or moving them.

      • DO NOT move the animal unless in immediate danger (e.g. in the road). If absolutely necessary, find a safe place as close as possible.
      • Monitor for 24 hours to check if the mother returns
      • Provide food, water and shelter (box, blanket) while monitoring
      • Keep handling to a minimum (DO NOT touch unless necessary, and absolutely DO NOT WASH/CLEAN unless a harmful substance is on the animal)
      • If no mother returns within 24 hours, the animal can be moved and helped

Why Tamraght Still Feels Different from Taghazout

When I first arrived in Morocco, I lived in Taghazout.

At the time, I couldn't imagine living anywhere else. Taghazout had everything I thought I was looking for: surf, cafés, ocean views, and an international community that seemed vibrant and exciting.

Then, for practical reasons, I moved to Tamraght.

And almost immediately, I found myself asking a simple question:

Why didn't I do this sooner?

More Than a Place, a Community

Friends gathered on a hilltop overlooking Tamraght, the Atlantic, and the mountains

The biggest difference between Tamraght and Taghazout isn't the beaches, the surf, or the scenery.

      It's the people.

In Tamraght, there is a genuine sense of community. People are building their own projects and following their own paths, but there is also a strong culture of mutual support. Instead of constant competition, there is collaboration. Instead of trying to stand out at someone else's expense, people often help each other grow.

What surprised me most was how naturally relationships develop not only with other travelers and expats, but also with local families.

      You don't just visit Tamraght.

      You become part of it.

      A Different Kind of Authenticity

Friends sharing tajine on the beach with surfboards in Tamraght

Taghazout is undeniably cool. It has become one of Morocco's most famous surf destinations for a reason.

But over the years, it has changed.

The village has grown rapidly, and with that growth came higher prices, more businesses competing for attention, and a different atmosphere than the one many people remember.

Tamraght, on the other hand, still feels grounded.

It remains a place where daily life unfolds at its own pace. Families have lived here for generations. Children play in the streets. Neighbors know each other. The rhythm of the village is still shaped by local life rather than tourism alone.

For travelers looking to experience a more authentic side of Morocco, that difference matters.

      Between Ocean and Mountains

Atlantic coastline and mountain scenery near Tamraght, Morocco

Another reason I fell in love with Tamraght is its setting.

Here, you're never limited to one landscape.

Within minutes, you can move between wild beaches, mountain viewpoints, hidden trails, and panoramic scenery overlooking the Atlantic coast.

      The colors are unforgettable.

The red earth, the white buildings, the blue ocean, the golden sunsets.

Sometimes I stop for a moment and look around, and everything feels exactly where it should be.

It's a feeling that's difficult to explain, but easy to recognize once you've experienced it.

      The Beauty of Slow Living

Slow living moments in Tamraght, Morocco

      Life in Tamraght moves slowly.

For some people, that may sound boring.

For me, it's one of the village's greatest strengths.

The slower pace creates space for meaningful conversations, spontaneous encounters, and genuine connections. It encourages you to pay attention to small things: the morning light, a cup of mint tea, the sound of children laughing, the familiar faces you meet every day.

In a world that often feels rushed, Tamraght reminds me that life doesn't always need to move faster.

Sometimes it simply needs to be lived more fully.

      A Village Worth Protecting

Tamraght village and coastline worth protecting

      Tamraght is growing.

That growth brings opportunities for local businesses, families, and entrepreneurs. It also brings responsibility.

Like many beautiful places around the world, Tamraght faces a challenge: how to welcome visitors without losing the qualities that make it special in the first place.

      Its authenticity.

      Its soul.

      Its sense of community.

This belief is one of the reasons I created Visit Tamraght.

Not simply to promote tourism, but to encourage a form of tourism that benefits local people, supports local businesses, and respects the identity of the village.

Because growth should never come at the expense of what makes a place unique.

      So, Tamraght or Taghazout?

So, Tamraght or Taghazout — local life in Tamraght

If you're looking for nightlife, a busier social scene, and a destination that has already established itself on the international surf map, Taghazout may be the right choice.

If you're looking for community, authenticity, and a place where you can slow down and feel part of something real, Tamraght might be exactly what you need.

I know which one I'd choose now.
